MindBoggle is a science and maths quiz show for Meta Quest. It has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no in-app purchases, and it never connects to the internet. We, SaneBits, do not collect, receive or store any information about you.
On your headset
Your settings, records, daily results, the questions you have seen recently, your player profile (the name you typed and the avatar you chose) and the list of players you have blocked are saved in the game's own storage on your headset. They never leave it, except as described under Play together below. Uninstalling the game deletes them.
Microphone and voice answers
If you choose to answer out loud, the game listens through the headset microphone only while you are answering a question. Your voice is turned into words by a speech recogniser that runs entirely on your headset. The audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. You can turn voice answers off in Settings and answer by touch instead.
Hand and head tracking
The game reads your hand and head positions from the headset so you can touch, point, pinch and slap the buzzer. In solo play this is used on the headset only, while you play, and is not stored or sent anywhere.
Play together (local multiplayer)
Play together lets up to three people on the same Wi-Fi network play one show. It uses only your local network:
- While Play together is open, your headset tells other headsets on the network your player name and avatar, so a host can invite you. A host's headset announces its room's name, code, host name and avatar, and how many players are in it. A host can make a room private, so it isn't announced in the list.
- The headsets in a room exchange, directly with each other over your local network:
- each player's name, avatar and whether they are ready;
- the moments they press the buzzer and the answers they choose;
- if they answer out loud, the words the recogniser heard (never the audio), so the host's headset can check the answer;
- the direction each player is looking, so their avatar looks the same way for the others.
- A random number, kept on your headset, lets you rejoin a room you dropped out of and lets you block someone.
- None of this goes to the internet, to SaneBits or to any third party. It is not stored by anyone: the other headsets use it only while the room is open and discard it when it closes.
Blocking: on the room board you can block another player. You will no longer see their name, avatar, invites or rooms, and they cannot join rooms you host. A host can also remove a player from a room. The blocked list stays on your headset, and you can clear it in Play together.
Children
MindBoggle does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. When playing together, other players on the same Wi-Fi see the name you type, so choose a name you are happy for people nearby to see.
